Aberdeen boxing champ backs SNP’s McDonald

Aberdeen boxer Lee McAllister – the Aberdeen Assassin – has given his backing to SNP candidate Mark McDonald for the Aberdeen Donside by-election.

Lee is a well known boxer in Aberdeen whose victories in the ring saw him make boxing history as the first Scot to simultaneously hold two Commonwealth boxing titles in different weight divisions.

Lee McAllister’s backing is the second endorsement from a major Aberdeen sporting figure, with Dons legend Joe Harper having also given Mark McDonald his support.

Giving his backing, Lee McAllister said:

“Donside needs is an MSP who fights for the communities in this area and is a strong local voice.

“I know Mark is someone who will put the needs of people living here first and will do all he can to deliver for Donside.

“I know Mark from the support he has given to amateur sports events for kids in the area and an MSP who understands what sport can do for young people is exactly what Aberdeen Donside needs.

“Labour’s man wants to hit families in the pocket with hikes in Council Tax and axe free eduction for the young. Only a vote for Mark will deliver a knock-out blow to those plans.

“I’m backing Mark McDonald to fight for our local interests at Holyrood.”

Welcoming the endorsement, Mark McDonald added:

“I’m delighted Lee is putting his trust in me and giving me his backing.  He is a great sportsman and a proud Aberdonian, so to have his support is a great vote of confidence.

“Lee has made a career out of being a strong fighter and that is what I intend to be for Aberdeen Donside if people vote me in on June 20.”
