Politicians and members of the NUJ have reacted with concern after respected broadcaster Iain MacDonald was unexpectedly axed by the BBC.
Mr MacDonald, who was regarded as BBC Scotland’s ‘voice of the Highland’s, was informed in a phone call from Glasgow that his services were no longer required.
Mr MacDonald, who as a Union spokesman had been a key figure in the fight against job cuts at BBC Scotland, joins other well-known broadcasters in an exodus from the BBC.
Also believed to be departing are Seonag Mackinnon, the education correspondent and Bill Whiteford the Radio Scotland presenter.
Colin Wight, the Aberdeen-based correspondent and business correspondent Waseem Zakir are also reported to be leaving as are political reporter Sarah Paterson, and reporters Nina Macleod, David Allison and Nuala Napier.
