BBC Alba has announced the date that it will start to broadcast on Freeview. The Gaelic channel will be on Freeview channel 8 from 8 June. This is the same day that the digital switchover begins at the Blackhill transmitter.
The channel was launched as a joint venture between the BBC and MG Alba but was only available on satellite until last week when it was made available on cable.
A marketing campaign is to be launched to publicise the increased access to the channel. The Scottish Government has welcomed the development as it will help ensure a sustainable future for Gaelic.
