Celtic win Europa League appeal

Glasgow Celtic have won their challenge against Swiss side FC Sion and have been re-instated into the Europa League.

The appeal by the Glasgow giants follows the fielding of ineligible players by the Swiss team in the home and away legs of the competition.

FC Sion breached the transfer embargo rule by playing a team containing players they had recently acquired on the transfer market.  The ban had been imposed by Fifa after Sion breached rules over the signing of Egyptian international goalkeeper, Essam El-Hadary, three years ago.

The Swiss side had fielded the players in defiance of the rule.  FC Sion can appeal the decision but UEFA are unlikely to reverse the ruling.
