Edinburgh have become the first Scottish team to reach the semi-finals of rugby’s Heineken Cup. A near forty thousand crowd saw the team defeat four-time champions Toulouse 19-14 at Murrayfield.
Commenting on the win, Edinburgh Western MSP Colin Keir said:
“This is an absolutely fantastic result against formidable opposition, and in front of a record-breaking crowd.
“Toulouse are the most successful club in the history of the Heineken Cup, and are currently on top form, so the Edinburgh players could be forgiven for being a little intimidated. But they gave as good as they got, and refused to be overawed, and ended up taking complete control.
“This is a huge boost for the club and for the City – hopefully as many of the fans as possible who were there today can get to Dublin for the semi-final in three weeks’ time.”
Edinburgh will now meet the winners of the Munster versus Ulster quarter-final tie.
