A local SNP MSP has raised concerns about the potential loss of 108 jobs after Patak’s Breads in Cumbernauld launched a review of the viability of its services.
The firm’s owners, Allied Bakeries, has served 90 day redundancy notices on staff, blaming “fierce competition” in the naan bread market.
Responding to the news, Jamie Hepburn SNP MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, called for reassurances from the company about the future of the jobs.
Mr Hepburn said:
“It is extremely concerning to hear a consultation has been launched to review the on-going viability of Patak’s Breads in Cumbernauld.
“This is bad news for Cumbernauld and represents a real blow for many families. The company is an important employer for the local community and losing it would be devastating.
“The 90-day consultation will examine if there is a way to keep the business going – and I urge the company to look at this in detail.
“I am in contact with Allied Bakeries and am hoping they can provide me with reassurances about the future of these jobs.”
