Cathcart MSP, James Dornan, has hosted a hugely successful jobs fayre at Langside College for young people across his constituency
The local MSP brought together private and public sector employers and agencies to offer employment opportunities and advice to 16 – 26 year olds.
The event was also attended by the Scottish Government’s Minister for Youth Employment, Angela Constance MSP, who spoke to many of those involved, discussed their experiences and highlighted The Scottish Government’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment.
Following the event James Dornan said:
“I was delighted with the huge success of the jobs fayre with over 500 people attending seeking work, advice and training.
“I decided to hold this jobs fayre as it is clear the issue of unemployment is a huge concern across my constituency. The event just confirmed my view that people are eager to find work – they only need to be given the right opportunity and support.
“As a local MSP I feel I have a responsibility to support my constituents in any way that I can, and that includes by hosting events such as this.”
Mr Dornan said the feedback had been incredibly positive and he planned to repeat the event in future including holding more localised jobs fayres around the constituency
He added: “To ensure that this continues to be useful for my constituents I will be seeking feedback from the organisations and participants involved.
“I wish to thank the organisations that took part and Langside College for being such a great host venue, the Cathcart constituency is extremely fortunate to have such a fabulous community facility on its doorstep.
“I’d also like to give huge thanks to Angela Constance MSP, Minister for Youth Employment, for her participation and enthusiasm, but most of all I’d like to thank the 500 people who attended with a desire to find employment and training. I wish them every success in the future and will continue to do all I can to support them.”
