Students in Edinburgh have this year welcomed the opening of Mansion Beaverbank, a new purpose-built development offering contemporary student accommodation.

With five higher education establishments in the city – Edinburgh University, Edinburgh Napier University, Herriot Way University, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh College of Art and a student population of over 47,000 – the demand for accommodation is high.

In 2011 dozens of students were unable to find suitable university accommodation by the start of term and had to be housed at the last minute by their university in Musselburgh, six miles outside Edinburgh.  With the 2012 rise in tuition fees there was a decrease in the number of applications to Edinburgh universities from English students.  However the rise in applications from Scottish students and students from other EU countries, who will not be charged tuition fees, ensures the demand for quality accommodation in the city remains high.

The new Mansion Beaverbank development is located on Logie Green in the popular Cannonmill area of Edinburgh and comprises of 356 new student bed spaces.  It is designed specifically with students in mind and is arranged in two blocks over the ground and four upper floors.  The development is part of a series of new projects by Mansion Student, one of the UK’s leading providers of student accommodation.

Mansion Beaverbank fills a gap in the market for high-spec student accommodation that offers spacious en suite bedrooms, areas to study, modern fittings and décor that would put even Sweden’s finest to shame. The on-site facilities read like a five star hotel, making that move from home so much easier; with fully equipped kitchens, Wi-Fi in every room, laundry facilities, and a hospitality and maintenance team on hand.

Most people will readily admit that their university years were some of the best years of their lives.  The student experience is not just about studying, it’s about that first foray into adult life, and having a good time and making friends.  Student accommodation plays a big part in allowing students to experience all that student life has to offer and ensuring their time spent at university is both educational and enjoyable.
