Facebook hired firm to discredit Google, leaked correspondence reveals

It has come to light that social network Facebook hired a public relations firm to systematically discredit Google.

Leaked emails reveal that the social networking giant sought the assistance of PR firm Burson-Marsteller to tar the reputation of Social Circle – a rival network run by Google.

Burson-Marsteller recruited two journalists to push editors at The Washington Post and USA Today to run editorials highly critical of Social Circle’s privacy settings.

The story was exposed after a blogger was approached to publish the spin, but published the correspondence online.
