Former Scottish Labour MP released from prison

Jim Devine, the former Scottish Labour MP for Livingston has been released from prison after serving 4 months of a 16 month sentence for expenses fraud.

Mr Devine was one of four ex-Labour MPs sentenced to prison for illegally claiming taxpayers cash.  At his trial Devine claimed to have been advised on how to fill in his expenses form by a Labour chief whip, the allegation was denied.

Devine is considered a low risk offender and is being allowed home under the electronic tagging scheme.

The disgraced former Labour MP was recently declared bankrupt after he failed to pay damages to a former female employee who he unfairly dismissed when still a member of the Labour party.
