Comedian Freddie Starr has been arrested by police who are conducting investigations into the Jimmy Savile sex scandal.
Officers working on operation Yew tree confirmed that a man in his sixties had been taken into custody in relation to allegations of sexual offences.
A statement released by the Metropolitan Police reads: “Officers working on Operation Yew tree have this evening, 1 November, arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.
“The man, from Warwickshire, was arrested at approximately 17.45 hrs on suspicion of sexual offences, and has been taken into police custody locally.
“The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed ‘Savile and others’.”
In 1974 Starr appeared on the BBC TV show ‘Clunk Click’ with Savile alongside a 14 year old girl who has since accused him of molesting her.
Starr has denied the allegations.
