Last week Newsnet Scotland reported on the attack of a Greenock man in broad daylight. The attack was the second on the man in six months by the same gang.
Last night the man was attacked again, the third in months and the second in two weeks, as thugs smashed their way into his Inverkip road flat. We understand that the victim was very beaten badly but managed to struggle free and tried to flee the block of flats only to be dragged back in by the gang.
Managing to crawl under a bed the victim is quoted as saying “I was fighting for my life” – police arrived and the gang fled.
No-one went to the man’s aid as he shouted for help, although the phone call to police probably saved his life.
The victim is currently in hospital with serious injuries.
We will publish more on this later.
Update:
The story has today (Mon 26th Apr) appeared in the local newspaper ‘The Greenock Telegraph’, where the article describes the attack as a ‘serious assault’ with a ‘blunt instrument’. The newspaper reports that police are looking for at least two people in connection with the incident and are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.
The family are coping with the help of messages of support from the very many wellwishers who have taken the time to get in touch.
Newsnet Scotland remain at the disposal of this family should they wish further aspects of this episode to be published.
