UK Energy Minister Chris Huhne faces a call to resign if the Government does not heed to the scientific advice over climate change.
Environmental organisation Friends of the Earth has written to the Minister, urging him to resign if advice issued by the Committee on Climate Change is rejected. The Committee has advised the Government to have stronger climate change targets.
The call from the organisation comes as leaked documents show senior Liberal Democrat Vince Cable opposes tougher action on climate change.
Andy Atkins, Executive Director of Friends of the Earth said:
“It’s astonishing that Vince Cable is urging the Government to snub its key advisor’s call for tougher climate targets – in opposition he argued for a zero-carbon economy. Chris Huhne must make it clear that the credibility of both the Coalition and his party are at stake. If the Government won’t stand up for climate action he should stand down”
