Amid referendum myth and misinformation, independence fear and uncertainty and Yes versus No it can be difficult to make sense of it all.

In a time of confusion you need someone you can trust to tell the truth, someone whose loyalty is beyond question … and who better than our own “best friend”.

Amid referendum myth and misinformation, independence fear and uncertainty and Yes versus No it can be difficult to make sense of it all.

In a time of confusion you need someone you can trust to tell the truth, someone whose loyalty is beyond question … and who better than our own “best friend”.

Today Newsnet Scotland introduces our readers to ‘Duggy Dug’.

Have you ever heard a dug tell lies?

This new project, still in development, takes a look at the independence debate using a radical new approach.  Our wee cartoon character ‘Duggy’ is older than the average dug, and although getting on a bit, he’s also a great deal wiser than the average dug.

Inspired by Newsnet Scotland’s A to Z of independence, an animated Duggy will take viewers on a humorous stroll through some of the more controversial claims made by Unionists.

Covering subjects such as Scottish Oil, EU membership and using the pound, the wee dug will dispel the misinformation whilst providing a few chuckles at the same time.  Meet his pals ‘Pep’ the ginger dug from Barcelona and wee ‘Manxy’ from the Isle of Man as they weave their way through the scariest of scare stories.

In an exclusive pilot preview that can be seen below, Duggy briefly introduces himself in what we hope will be the first of many similar animations.

Newsnet Scotland has commissioned a team of dedicated professionals to create and develop this character we hope to officially launch by the end of July.  We can also reveal that negotiations are already taking place with the aim of persuading an internationally recognised personality to agree to be the voice of Duggy.

We have already invested a significant amount of our funds into this radical project because we feel it has the potential to influence the independence debate like no other.

Today we invite readers of Newsnet Scotland to come on board, to join with us and to help make this project a success.

Our aim is to raise £10,000 towards the cost of the project.  The money will ensure high quality animation and allow us to promote the character of Duggy Dug.

The groundwork has already been laid with the purchase of domain names.  A dedicated web site is currently being developed that will ensure Duggy’s cartoons are readily accessible and the ‘Duggy Dug’ youtube channel has already been set up.

Promotion in the media will run in parallel with the animations, the aim of which will be to ensure as many non-politically aware people get to know about the character and crucially, can access the animations – which will be child friendly.

It’s going to be a challenge but we think it’s worth our efforts.  The Yes campaign needs to get radical and we hope you’ll agree that a talking dug is as radical as it gets.

Please donate what you can and let’s unleash Duggy Dug!
