Nomination forms are now available and potential candidates have until 4pm on October 12 to register their intention to stand for Inverness South on Highland Council. The by-election will take place on Thursday November 3.
The seat was held by former Labour councilor John Holden who was jailed for one year at Inverness Sheriff Court for fraud after being found guilty of fraudulently obtaining £43,000 of benefits.
Mr Holden is currently serving his sentence in Glasgow’s Barlinnie Prison. Two subsequent attempts by him to be released on bail pending an appeal were thrown out of court.
The three other councillors in the four-member Inverness South Ward are councillors Jim Crawford (independent), Roy Pedersen (SNP) and Thomas Prag (Lib Dem).
The Inverness South Ward has a total electorate of 9,314 people
