Independent MSP John Finnie to speak in Glasgow as Scottish Socialist Party steps up intensity of campaign for Independence with local public meetings.
The SSP has decided to step up the intensity of its contribution to the campaign for a Yes vote with a new round of public meetings in the west of Scotland.
The first of this series in Glasgow is in Scotstoun Primary school, Duncan Avenue, on Thursday 21st August at 7.30pm.
SSP regional organiser, Richie Venton, today told us:
“With just four weeks to go, and increasing numbers declaring themselves undecided, the SSP is determined to let local people hear the socialist case for independence.
“We are delighted that Independent MSP for the Highlands, John Finnie, is making the long journey to speak in Scotstoun. John is a principled pro-independence campaigner who resigned from the SNP when they reversed their policy on Scotland being part of the warmongering, USA-dominated nuclear alliance that is NATO.
“The SSP are the socialist wing of the Yes campaign. We don’t want to just swap flags, but to change utterly the conditions the working class majority population of Scotland live under.
“John Finnie will explain a range of radical improvements that working people can achieve through independence, including protection of our cherished NHS from the savage cuts, closures and privatisations that are wreaking havoc in the health service in England under Westminster.
“Local veteran socialist Ena McLean will address the issues women and older people especially seek clarity on at our public meeting.
” And I will explain why working people have most to gain; why a Yes vote is not only the quickest escape route from vicious Tory dictatorship over Scotland, but also the golden opportunity to shape our future and build for a socialist majority Scottish government.
“This meeting will answer questions that are left unanswered by the TV debates, so all are warmly welcomed with their questions and opinions.”
