Speaking from the Junior Ryder Cup at Olympia Fields Country Club where she saw the final day’s play and attended the Closing Ceremony, Sport Minister Shona Robison said:

“The Junior Ryder Cup is a tremendous competition that matches the excitement and competitive sprit of the Ryder Cup and showcases great emerging golfing talent. The Europe team put up a good fight but in the end the US team were too strong and retained the title with some very strong performances.

“I am delighted that the next competition will be hosted at Blairgowrie Golf Club in 2014, which promises to be a fantastic year of sport for Scotland on the world stage with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

“Blairgowrie can also look forward to welcoming young people who have been inspired to take up the game by our ClubGolf programme which has introduced over 260,000 nine year olds to the game. The quality of golf here has been outstanding and I am sure Blairgowrie will be a great test for the new generation of golfers.”
