Labour council in £20,000 ballot paper blunder

A blunder by Labour run North Lanarkshire Council has led to election material having to be re-printed and delivered to constituents at a cost of up to £20,000.
The mistake saw 26,000 voting packs sent out to postal voters with an example illustration which showed a cross placed in a box instead of the correct 1,2,3 numbered ranking of candidates.

A council official has insisted that the actual ballot paper and instructions contained no errors and that corrected illustrations have now been sent out.

The official also claimed that the £20,000 cost of re-prints will not be borne by local taxpayers.
