At least two sitting councillors at a second Labour-run Scottish local authority are facing de-selection as the ruthless cull of ‘dead wood’ spreads out from Glasgow to North Lanarkshire.
Councillor Joe Shaw is believed to be the first North Lanarkshire victim of the London-driven elimination. Mr Shaw, the veteran member for the Strathkelvin ward, is known to be good friends with disgraced former leader of Glasgow City Council Steven Purcell.
One insider source said: “Some assessments have already been carried out and Joe Shaw’s already telling people he’s gone.”
The deselection process in North Lanarkshire is not over and is expected to be taken further at the begining of October.
