The end of February sees the second grass roots celebration of Scotland’s literary and musical talent.

This festival has no public funding and seeks to make arts accessible and affordable this year with what promises to be an event to hold in the memory.

One of the greatest artists Scotland has ever produced, Alasdair Gray has spent the last few years working on two monumental projects: his Bella Caledonia auditorium at Oran Mor, and his vision of Faust, Fleck.

The two now come together for a unique and spectacular event as Gray presents his play in a read-through format in the glorious setting of the auditorium.

Performers include Alasdair Gray, Alan Bissett, Allan Wilson, Zoe Strachan, Louise Welsh, Chiew Siah-Tei, Rodge Glass, Carl MacDougall and many more.

Margins Book and Music Festival: Alasdair Gray’s Fleck (at the Oran Mor Auditorium) Sun 26 Feb 2012 7pm £12

The other events, with writers including Louise Welsh, Chris Brookmyre and William McIlvanney, not to mention musicians such as Roddy Woomble, and old Arab Strap band members Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffat will be held at the Arches in Glasgow 24th-26th February.

This Festival is the brainchild of young Scottish entrepreneur Mark Buckland.   At only 25, he runs Cargo Publishing, an innovative company that punches well above its weight in promoting new and established Scottish writing talent in the same breathe as international writing stars.

This is the second Margins festival, and as Scottish culture becomes more and more marginalised thanks to cuts in the arts and broadcasting – it has never been more important to support this Festival.
