Moray MP Angus Robertson has today welcomed confirmation from the Ministry of Defence that Secretary of State Philip Hammond will discuss the issue of contamination at Kinloss with the SNP Westminster leader on his return from a summit in the United States tomorrow evening (Tuesday).
Mr Robertson had requested a discussion following recent reports of contamination at the military base where radioactive radium is present in land in and around the base.
It has also emerged that chemical weapon agents may also be contaminating land accessible by the public.
Mr Robertson said:
“I welcome the speedy agreement by Defence Secretary to discuss the contamination reports.
“It is important to understand the scale of the risks involved. While the MoD has issued assurances on this issue, I think it is important that the local community has as much information as possible to understand this situation.”
