A new YouGov poll shows 2 in 3 people (63 per cent) don’t see the point of the Liberal Democrats; last year 56 per cent said they had no clue what they stood for.
Meanwhile, 40 per cent of respondents say the party has contributed nothing positive to the UK coalition and 15 per cent have no idea what they do at all.
1 in 10 respondents think they have a great deal of influence on UK Government policy, with about half (49 per cent) of all respondents saying they have no influence whatsoever.
One noteable result, almost half (49 per cent) of respondents agree with the phrase: “I could never trust the Liberal Democrats, even if they left the Coalition” and just slightly over 1 in 10 respondents (12%) strongly disagreed.
When asked about Nick Clegg, only three out of ten think he is doing a good job as Lib Dem leader, down from nearly five out of ten this time last year.
This comes as Nick Clegg’s party begins its annual conference today in Birmingham.
