Police ‘kettled’ in Strathclyde student protest

A conflict with police during a student protest against university cuts has led to two people being arrested after some of the group’s leaders were involved in scuffles with policemen. The march commenced from Strathclyde Union in Glasgow, with around 100 student protestors demonstrating against plans to cut back on courses.

As the rally reached the university’s McCance Building, some protesters were seen trying to force their way in. The situation became more serious as Strathclyde Police officers tried to clear the students off the road and onto the pavement.

Scuffles intensified when students attempted to “kettle” the police and chanting: “Who’s kettled now?”.
