Scottish Cup – Celtic 3 Motherwell 0

by Alan Barbour

Celtic strolled to victory at a rain-sodden Hampden this afternoon with a 3 – 0 win over Motherwell.

The first goal came in the 32nd minute. Kris Commons picked up a pass from Wilson, turned his marker and layed the ball off to Ki, who then hit a 25 yard drive into the corner of the net.

Four minutes later, Motherwell nearly equalised when Gunning’s 30 yard strike crashed off the underside of the bar.

Fifteen minutes from time, Celtic took a two goal lead when Craigan deflected into his own net.

Celtic wrapped it up with two minutes remaining when a fantastic Mulgrew free kick from the edge of the box gave Motherwell goalie Randolph no chance.

The win gave the Parkhead side a record 35th Scottish Cup success and Neil Lennon his first trophy as manager of the Hoops.
