Senior BBC journalist joins SNP Westminster team


BBC journalist Stewart Easton is joining the Scottish National Party team at Westminster.  Stewart is the new Head of Communications for the Westminster group of MPs.

He has been involved in journalism all his professional life. At the BBC this included editing the flagship Good Morning Scotland show and being Head of News and Current Affairs for BBC Radio Scotland between 2002 and 2007.

He is currently based in London where he works as a senior journalist across BBC Radio 4 programmes such as the World At One, PM, and The World This Weekend .

He is now taking up the post at Westminster as Scotland prepares for the referendum in two years time.

Mr Easton said:

“I am delighted to join a talented team at Westminster, helping to ensure the SNP gets positive and fair coverage in the London-based as well as Scottish media in the run-up to the independence referendum in 2014.”

SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson added:

“Stewart is an extremely experienced and successful BBC journalist, and we are delighted that he is joining our team as we work to spell out the benefits of an independent Scotland.”

Stewart is 50, was born and educated in Glasgow and he is a graduate of Glasgow University.
