There is no previous form to go in with this week’s inaugural Sicilian Open so there is some guesswork in who will be suited to the course.

Given that there is likely to be a fair bit of wind around, I think Scotland’s Steven Gallacher who plays well in such conditions and is also in solid current form, could reward an each-way bet at odds of 20/1.

My other selection has to be Frenchman Gregory Havret at 20/1 (each-way) as he is also in good current form and has won in Italy before.

It is surprising and a little disappointing that Italian stars Matteo Manassero and the Molinari brothers have decided to bypass this new event in their homeland.

28 year old Scot Martin Laird from Glasgow is my election to come out top in Tampa Bay, Florida this week at odds of 40/1.

Laird has been playing really well recently and was in a tie for 10th spot last week in the Cadillac Championship.

It could be a tremendous week for Scots golf as I think we might have a chance at a Transatlantic double with Laird and Gallacher.
