Soul-jazz diva Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her apartment in London, she was 27 years old.

The Metropolitan police confirmed that a 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the home in Camden Square north London; the cause of death was not immediately known.

Winehouse shot to fame with her 2006 album ‘Back to Black’ which was an international hit – it earned the singer five Grammy awards.

However Winehouse’s life became increasingly shambolic and problems with drink and drugs overshadowed her enormous talent.

The singer canceled her European comeback tour last month after she staggered and slurred her way through songs in her first performance in the Serbian capital of Belgrade.  Fans booed her off stage and she flew home refusing to accept payment for the concert.

“I didn’t go out looking to be famous,” Winehouse said when “Back to Black” was released. “I’m just a musician.
