Douglas Campbell who sat as an independent and is the former Labour group leader on South Ayrshire Council has joined the SNP group.

Councillor Campbell was first elected in 1987 and was quoted as saying: “The Labour Party he once knew has ceased to exist”.  A minority Conservative administration of 12 councillors currently controls South Ayrshire Council.  The SNP now has 9 councillors, Labour 6 and there are 3 independents.

This follows on from the 2 Liberal Democrat councillors who joined the SNP group on Renfrewshire Council recently.
