GENERAL…
Moray MP Angus Robertson and Richard Lochhead – the local MSP – are encouraging as many people as possible to attend the March and Rally to save RAF Lossiemouth this Sunday (7th November 2010) at 2pm in Lossiemouth.

The base is under threat after the UK Strategic Defence Review revealed huge cutbacks in UK defence spending as a result of the UK’s huge financial deficit, neighbouring RAF base at Kinloss is already earmarked for closure.

Local MP Angus Robertson has claimed that to close both bases would result in job losses to the area equivalent to London losing 700,000 jobs.

Commenting Mr Robertson said:

“The decimation of RAF bases here in Moray is purely and simply crazy, both in defence and economic terms.

“This is the equivalent of 700,000 jobs going in London, for the Prime Minister that would be unthinkable, so why do it in Moray.

“We need to send the strongest possible message to the Prime Minister that this is unacceptable.

“Please if you can, get along to Lossiemouth this Sunday.

“If you cannot make it yourself, please encourage your friends, family or work colleagues to come to Lossiemouth.”

Local MSP Richard Lochhead added:

“This community led effort has attracted an incredible level of interest from all over the country and is tribute to the fantastic work being done by many local volunteers and the Moray Task Force, a multi agency group, set up to work alongside the community in ensuring the best possible case for retaining these vital defence interests in Moray.

“It would be great to see as many people as possible on Sunday to show how integral a part of everyday life the bases have become to Moray over many decades.

“A large crowd is expected so please allow plenty of time.”{password}
