An SNP MSP has demanded the retraction of a “false” and “inaccurate” a press release issued by a Labour MSP. The statement from Labour MSP Neil Findlay talks of NHS Lothian losing 734 nursing posts.
SNP MSP Colin Beattie has hit out at the claims and demanded the Labour MSP immediately retract the comments.
The SNP MSP alleges that Mr Findlay never raised any concern about this a recent meeting and had actually left the room when the workforce item was discussed.
Mr Beattie, MSP for Midlothian and Musselburgh, said: “This is a completely uninformed comment which is totally untrue.
“Mr Findlay did not raise this point at the meeting on Friday. In fact he had actually left the room before the workforce item on the agenda was discussed.
“I know this because I was present at the meeting – and remained there for the duration.
“It is an act of sheer folly by the Labour MSP and is particularly unhelpful for everyone in the nursing profession as well as the patients and the families of patients in the NHS Lothian area.
“I would encourage Neil Findlay to do his homework and get his fact right before sending out press releases which are misleading and unfounded.
“The SNP Government has stated numerous times that we will protect the NHS budget and will continue to invest in frontline services.”
