The SNP has suspended a councillor from the party after he insulted a female colleague during a public meeting in Inverness.

Donnie Kerr allegedly called a fellow councillor a “stupid bitch” as she was speaking during a debate.  Mr Kerr has now been suspended from the SNP for six months following a disciplinary hearing.

The remark was directed at fellow SNP councillor Pauline Munro during a debate in Highland Council’s headquarters about leisure services and libraries.

Ms Munro didn’t hear the remark but other SNP colleagues did and an investigation was carried out.

Councillor Kerr will now be excluded from taking part in party group meetings to discuss council business for the next six months.
