Sports Betting Weekly- Christmas

With weather reports of possible -27 degrees over the festive period, the likelihood is for more of the same where the sport is concerned with most fixtures falling due to the adverse conditions, but ever the optimist I will look at the main races and the football scheduled for over the festive season.

The King George at Kempton on Boxing Day sees the Paul Nicholls trained Kauto Star attempt to take the race for the fifth time.

His trainer will be sure to have him cherry ripe for the race but at odds of even money i think the value lies elsewhere and Forpadydeplasterer who always seems to end up finishing second, might have a change of luck and walk off with the big one.For a horse who invariably finishes in the first two, odds of 10/1 seem more than fair.

The Paddy Power Chase is very hot this year with four viable contenders.  I wouldn’t be surprised at any of the first four in the betting coming home first but again with value in mind i’m going for Willie Mullins’ runner J’y Vole who ran an excellent race when just losing out by three quarters of a length to Tranquil Sea in the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown.

The Welsh National at Chepstow always takes some winning and you really need an out and out stayer who goes in the mud.
Bluesea Cracker who goes in the ground and won the Irish National last season at Fairyhouse on very heavy going is a confident pick.  I like this one a lot and have already pencilled him in for the Grand National at Aintree in April.
