Tennent Caledonian back minimum pricing plans

SNP MSP Fiona McLeod has welcomed support for the SNP Government’s plans to introduce minimum pricing per unit of alcohol from Tennent Caledonian Brewers.

Ms McLeod, MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden, said:

“I am delighted that that Tennent Caledonian is backing our plans to battle Scotland’s problem with booze.

“The introduction of a minimum price is backed by organisations across the health and justice professions, by academics, by the licensed trade and increasing numbers of alcohol producers. Tennent Caledonian are a major player and it is significant that they see the merit in our plans.”

Steve Annand, Commercial Managing Director of Tennent Caledonian Breweries UK Ltd, said:

“We recognise that there is an issue with the abuse of alcohol by a minority of consumers in Scotland and that the Scottish Government has a role to play in tackling this.  As such, Tennent Caledonian welcomes sensible moves to ensure that alcohol is enjoyed appropriately here in Scotland.”
