A top tennis player has been disqualified from the final of a tournament for kicking an official.
David Nalbandian was contesting the final of the Aegon tennis championship when he lashed out after losing a point.
The Argentine 10th seed had won the first set on a tie-break 7-6(3), but after being broken by the Croatian sixth seed, Marin Cilic, midway through the second set he kicked out in frustration at an area where a line judge was sat.
The kick demolished flimsy hoarding at the linesman’s feet and hit the man in the shins, knocking him off his seat and leaving the official needing medical treatment for a nasty gash.
Nalbandian’s opponent Cilic was declared the winner as the crowd booed the decision by tournament officials.
