A tornado was spotted over Glasgow yesterday by keen eyed sky watchers. The twister appeared at around tea-time on Saturday as a thunderstorm moved over Scotland’s central belt.
The tornado appeared at the back of a large storm cloud and witnesses described it as “an incredible sight”.
Speaking to Newsnet Scotland, one Airdrie resident described sitting in calm warm sunshine one minute when suddenly the skies darkened and the noise of thunder drew their attention.
“We looked up and this amazing sight grabbed us. It was like a huge tail had sprouted out from the cloud and disappeared behind houses on the horizon.” said the resident.
“At first we didn’t believe it was a tornado, then just as soon as it appeared it began to dissipate and we could clearly see the clouds turning as it did so. It was incredible.”
