Trouble at Orange Parade

Three men have been arrested after clashes broke out at an Orange flute band march between followers and Republican protesters.

The incident happened on Craigton Road in Govan at around 9.30am on Saturday morning during a parade by the Pride of Govan Flute Band, Police Scotland said.

The men, aged 19, 24 and 41 are being held in police custody.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “The parade, which had just made off in Craigton St, had to be halted when marchers and followers – approximately 800 people – and a group of approximately 100 counter demonstrators (Republican) clashed in Craigton Road, Govan.
“The disorder was quickly brought under control by officers, including Support Unit officers, and the parade continued without further incident. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

It’s understood the march was a 30th anniversary parade with more than 30 bands in attendance.
