The charity Life, a group which is opposed to abortion in all circumstances has been appointed to advise the UK government on sexual health.
It has been invited to join a new forum set up to replace Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV. Meanwhile, the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) has been omitted from the new forum, despite its long period of service on the last advisory group and its 40 year record in providing pregnancy counselling.
Life’s head of education, Stewart Cowie, said:
“We are delighted to be invited into the group, representing views that have not always been around on similar tables in the past.”
The group advocates pro-abstinence sexual education and is critical of sexual health literature that promotes STI prevention.
In a tweet earlier today, Green MSP Patrick Harvie said that he would ask the Government to rule the anti-abortion stance out for Scotland.
