Wrong Hamilton street names on Google Maps angers local councillor

SNP councillor Barry Douglas was astonished to see glaring errors in Hamilton street names displayed on Google Maps and has written to Google asking them to correct the mistakes.

Confused street names include Woodburn Grove and Woodburn Court, not far from the town centre, oddly renamed Pilans Court.   Parts of Betram Street in Burnbank and Marqis Avenue in Whitehill have been wrongly named.  Carlisle Road in Barncluith has gained a new name, as have parts of Barncluith Road, Smithycroft and Castlehill Crescent.

Mr. Douglas’ view is that “locals know the street names” but “people visiting Hamilton” using Google Maps to find their destinations will undoubtedly get lost through no fault of their own.

Google responded, saying that street name information contained in Google Maps originates from contracted third party data providers and some errors can arise occasionally and feedback provided by users is always helpful in correcting such errors.

However, this is not the first time Google Providers have made mistakes, in 2006, eight town centre roads were misnamed on Google Maps resulting in a very confusing Google town centre map for visitors to Hamilton.
