That was the year that was. If nothing else 2014 will be remembered as the year Scotland woke up, took a good at itself, and wrestled the issues during an unforgettable referendum campaign.
This week Derek looks back at the outcome and its implications with fellow journalists Kevin McKenna of The Observer and Maurice Smith. And they consider the Scottish political scene today, and where it might be going in 2015.

Kevin has contributed regularly to Bateman Broadcasting during its first year of operation, and is one of those journalists who is acknowledged to have had a “good referendum”, with trenchant columns and features throughout the campaign. Has Scotland changed forever ? Will the work of the Smith Commission matter a jot ? What next in Scottish politics, where the two main parties are now under new leadership and preparing – possibly – for a fight to the death over the next 18 months as they battle in the UK and Scottish general elections.

Maurice helped get Bateman Broadcasting “on the air” as a means of ensuring that Derek Bateman’s familiar voice would be heard again, covering Scottish politics, following his departure from Radio Scotland.

Our producer, engineer (and occasional reporter) has been Amanda Mitchell, keeping Derek right on the technical side as well as bringing a welcome view to the work of the team.
Bateman Broadcasting will continue to cover the Scottish political scene in 2015, with more news and views as we run up to the General Election in May.
Bateman Broadcasting offers a unique perspective. Our interview-led approach adds real value and lively content to Scottish political debate.
