Crawford Beveridge, Scots-American businessman and the chair of the Scottish Government’s Fiscal Commission, joins Derek Bateman to explain how the group reached its recommendation that an independent Scotland should embrace Sterling in a currency union with England.

Crawford is a well-known figure in Scottish business, having been the first chief executive of Scottish Enterprise through the 1990s.

In a wide-ranging interview he discusses the referendum debate, the currency question, and even the prospects for start-up businesses in Scotland.

He was executive vice-president of Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley, and has since held senior board positions with US companies including Autodesk. He chairs the Scottish Government’s Council of Economic Advisers, and is also a director and adviser to several Scottish businesses.

Edinburgh-born and educated, Crawford worked for Hewlett Packard at South Queensferry before his career took him to California’s Silicon Valley.
